Matted size: 20x16 in The eye Catcher is a series in which I play with colors and textures, based on the rhythms of jazz. Here I used water-based mixed media to create the vertical patterns, mimicking the sound of jazzy bass, (but in one of them I highlighted the sinuosity of the saxophone). These paintings are intended to convey visually the joy elicited by the psychological impact of listening to this type of music, as a way to call attention to the psychological dynamics interwoven in visual and auditory perception. Music consistently elicits emotional responses and its relationship with psychology has long been studied. During the time I was a practicing art therapist, I had chance to use music as a healing tool in many therapeutic processes, achieving impressive results. So, my idea with this series was to translate visually the healing sensation of pleasure and beauty that music can potentially bring to mind, which is something as irresistible as an eye-catcher.
