Travel Embodiments: Paris From Above

In my oil pieces I usually play with different perspectives, seeking to look at the object from multiple angles. I specially love to play with conventional standing and aerial perspectives. I made several studies for this work using aerial view photographies of the center city of Paris as well as photographs of a precious Parisian chapel called La Saint-Chapele. I wanted to convey the vibrancy of the city, paying homage to its fantastic atmosphere. For me, the star style of center Paris resonates with the famous flower glass on the front façade of la Saint-Chapelle. Both seem to create a breathtaking vortex of energy that transports me through out different dimensions of history. In addition to that, in this series, I create works starting from my memories of significant places (“sites”) that, for different reasons, helped me gain a profound and intuitive understanding of experiences (“insights”). The open-ended colorful forms with hints of landscapes, invite viewers to finish the image in their minds by using their own recollection of places they had experienced before. This process of using past recollections to give meaning to visual marks, even for a brief moment, might help viewers to experience a connection between spaces conventionally called “within” and “without”.
