The connections between psychology and art have been the central concept of my art. I became fascinated with this theme during my practice as a clinical psychologist, an experience that helped me to infuse my art with principles based on different lines of thought in psychology. I usually create series of paintings in which I explore a certain subject connected to the central concept mentioned above. In the case of “Midnight Summer Dream”, I talk about the significance of dreams, according to the psychoanalytical perspective of S. Freud and play with the whimsical imagery and words of the title of Shakespeare’s comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Is there a more magical moment to make the mind wander than in those beautiful hot summer nights? It has always amazed me how both in Shakespeare’s comedy as well as in Freud's interpretation, dreams are seen as this special type of fabric in which fantasy and desire converge. From a psychoanalytical standpoint, each and every dream is a type of hallucinatory satisfaction of desires, and, above all of the desire of seeing. So here I worked with a sensuous palette of red and orange textures, illuminated by shimmering blues and greens. By creating this idyllic atmosphere of beauty and fascination, I invite my viewers to dive into a different dimension - the dimension of dreams. A grid of subtle vertical lines is overlapped in the red areas, creating some distance between the eyes and the image that seeks to intensify the impulse to dive into the vibrant areas of colors – the dimension of desire. As a psychologist, I am always interested in the relationship between the viewer and the act of seeing. As an artist, I am interested in the relationship between matter and sensation that awakens these modalities of perception. For me, art is a type of embodiment in which experience creates matter that creates experience. Above all, my own dreams have been a fabulous source of inspiration and wisdom in my life, so here I created a work to pay homage to them." Thank you for your interest in my portfolio.
